The fabulous fall outdoor concert series kicks off tonight at Discovery Green (sorry for the late notice — that Monday holiday has confused my days of the week!). Enjoy free, family-friendly fun each Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Houston’s downtown park, Discovery Green. The Thursday Concert Series features musicians from Texas and Louisiana. Here’s the September lineup:

September 9 – Los Skarnales with opener Karina Nistal
September 16 – Cyril Neville & Tribe 13
September 23 – Texas Tornados with opener Los Pistoleros de Texas
September 30 – Wild Moccasins and The Mathletes

Saturdays in September will be special in The Woodlands! Beginning this Saturday, select Chick-fil-A locations in The Woodlands will be serving a free breakfast item from 6 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. No additional purchase is necessary. One per person.

September 11: 3-count Chick-fil-A Chicken Mini’s
September 18: Chick-fil-A Chicken Biscuit
September 25: 3-count Chick-fil-A Chicken Mini’s

Free Tickets from Studio Movie Grill Facebook

I just heard of this free ticket offer, thanks to Cheap Eats in Houston… Yesterday, Studio Movie Grill started giving away 200 free movie tickets each hour through their Facebook fan page. Tickets are available at 19 past the hour with another 200 tickets generated — 9:19, 10:19… Each location has a limited number of tickets for the entire month, so once they run out they won’t be generated again. I just snagged a free pass at the Houston CityCentre location. (It appears the Copperfield location is out of passes). Passes admit two people and are valid through September 16. Simply go to the Studio Movie Grill Facebook page and click the tab “Are You a Fan?” and follow the directions.

For those fans not lucky enough to get a free pass, print a pass to see “The American” with George Clooney for only $5 plus a free soft drink. This pass requires a unique bar code and can only be used one time. If more than one pass is needed for a household, just click online to generate another pass with another barcode. Unfortunately, the pass doesn’t say when it expires!

Free Brown Bag Gallery Tour at Blaffer 9/8

Free lunch and gallery tour! Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston is hosting another free Brown Bag Gallery Tour this Wednesday, September 8, at noon. Visitors will enjoy a guided tour of its fall exhibition Amy Patton. According to Blaffer, Patton’s recent experiments in performance and theater employ complex strategies of sound, text, and voiceover. Her exhibit features three films and an installation of photographs.

Complimentary lunch will be provided after the tour. Blaffer Art Museum is located on the University of Houston campus at 4800 Calhoun.

Free Day of Yoga in Houston September 6

Sorry for the late notice on this one… The yoga community in Houston is hosting its 5th annual Free Day of Yoga Houston today, September 6, 2010. From sunrise to sunset, you’ll have the opportunity to take free yoga classes at participating studios throughout the city. The kickoff event begins at Discovery Green from 8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. Music and a drawing by Luke’s Locker follow after the morning yoga.

Check out the online schedule for free classes at the 25 participating studios around Houston. Every age level and fitness level is welcome to try yoga for free today!

Enjoy an outdoor flick — Another chance to view a movie under the stars! This Friday, it’s District D Night at the Movies featuring Avatar. This 8 p.m. movie at Miller Outdoor Theatre is sponsored by Houston District D council member Wanda Adams.

Create your own paper — This month’s free Hands-on Houston family activity features paper making. Learn how to pull a sheet of handmade paper from 100% cotton fiber. Browse free museums – It’s Bank of America’s first weekend freebie for cardholders. Get free admission September 4-5 at Children’s Museum of Houston, Houston Zoo, and Houston Museum of Natural Science. Free admission for individual cardholder, not children.

Experience Czech heritage — Enjoy delicious Czech cuisine, music and dancing at Haak Winery for its free Czech Festival. Shake your hips — If you love to move like a hula dancer, then check out the Discover Hoop Dance class at Discovery Green. Folks can shake their hips with hula hoops Sunday, September 5, at 10:30 a.m. Some hoops are provided, but bring your own if you can! Discovery Green is downtown at 1500 McKinney.

Engage in family museum fun — Art + Music = Fun is the theme of this month’s Target Free First Sunday at the Museum of Fine Arts. Hear performances in the galleries, create your own instrument, and watch the family flick, Girls Rock, at 4:30 p.m., a documentary about four girls at a rock-n-roll camp. Free admission from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Experience Bollywood — Enjoy the song, glitz, dance, and glamour of Bollywood Blast with an entertaining evening of fun for the entire family Sunday, September 5, at 8 p.m. This event will be at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park.

Here’s an interesting twist to encourage folks to get a flu shot this fall season… CVS is offering a free flu shot when you buy $30 worth of select Procter & Gamble products. P&G features many brands such as Tide, Pampers, Bounty, and more. No mention of how long this deal is available. Customers need an ExtraCare Card to get the free shot, but it’s a free sign-up at CVS.
