Cheap Family Fun for Spring Break March 15-19
SPRING BREAK is around the corner for Houston area schools. What fun Spring Break activities do you have planned with your kids March 15-19? Lots of Houston venues have planned special attractions and events geared to children. Here are a few options:
Space Center Houston – Get half-price tickets to Space Center Houston now through May 31, 2010. Visit Space Center Houston during spring break March 13 – 21 for loads of special fun: see The Snake Man show, meet favorite cartoon characters like Sponge Bob and Patrick, and enjoy Cirque Magnifique. The half-price tickets must be purchased online here and are good for one year. Adult tickets:$9.95 (1/2 price); children 4 to 11: $7.95 (half price.)
The Health Museum — Don’t miss Free Family Thursday from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Visit the Health & Wellness Expo 2010 at The Health Museum. Each day the Expo features loads of different activities: daily dissections (heart, eye, brain), family science lab stations, fitness demonstrations, healthy snacks, games, and crafts. Don’t miss UT Brain Night, Thursday, March 18. Families can see a real brain and ask doctors any question about the brain. Studio Movie Grill — Families can enjoy a kid-friendly matinee Saturday through Thursday (March 13-18) at 11 a.m.for only $2 per ticket. This month’s feature is Strawberry Shortcake: The Berryfest Princess. Movies will feature kid-friendly characters as well as cartoon shorts, music videos, and sing-a-longs before each movie. Kidtoon films will only be shown at the Copperfield Studio Movie Grill location at 8580 Hwy 6 North at West Road.
Brazos Bend State Park – Spring Break Marsh Madness kicks off tomorrow through March 21 at Brazos Bend State Park. Each day features a different hike (such as alligator or bird watching), story time, Ask the Ranger, slideshows, and games. Check out the daily schedule. Admission: $5/adult with kids 12 and under free. Brazos Bend State Park is in Needville 40 miles south of downtown Houston, 21901 FM 762.
Discovery Green — The free activities for spring kick off again at Discovery Green this weekend. Enjoy daytime fun such as Target Presents Storybook Opera (March 16, 18), Burgers & Blues (March 17, noon), Target Opera to Go (March 19, noon) and HEB Movie Night (March 19, 8 p.m.) watching Julie & Julia under the stars. 1500 McKinney downtown.
Sam Houston Race Park — Mondays are special at the horse track with free daytime admission each Monday in March. The gates open at 11:30 a.m. with the first live race beginning at 1:20 p.m. Parking and admission are all free with $1 draft beer specials. Kids can pet miniature donkeys, Chip and Dip, as well as watch the horse races.
Museum of Fine Arts – All week the Museum of Fine Arts is offering special family activities for spring break. Check out the museum calendar for gallery investigations, family tours, creation stations, and sketching in the galleries. Museum of Fine Arts, 1001 Bissonnet Street, 713-639-7300
The Children’s Museum of Houston – Go free on Thursday for Free Family Night from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. The Children’s Museum is celebrating its first birthday of its grand expansion March 13-21. Tons of daily fun all week including themed activities, Guinness Record attempts, confetti cannons, and live performances. Check out the detailed calendar here.
