Free Houston Weekend Fun November 20-22

FRIDAY HAS CIRCLED around once again!  Here are a few free things to do with your family and friends this weekend.  Enjoy!

View outdoor movie — The Downtown & a Movie series continues at Discovery Green this Saturday with a showing of Planes, Trains and Automobiles.  The outdoor flick begins at 7:30 p.m.  The show is sponsored by Saint Arnold Brewing and Downtown Magazine. Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney in downtown Houston.

Party in your PJs –Bring your kiddos in their jammies to this festive holiday book party.  Borders Books is hosting a Polar Express PJ Party Saturday, November 21, at 11 a.m.  The fun includes storytime, activities and more.  These locations are participating: 9633 Westheimer, Galleria Mall (5061 Westheimer), 3025 Kirby, 570 Meyerland Plaza, 9595 Six Pines Dr. (The Woodlands) and Fountains on the Lake in Stafford (begins at 2 p.m.).

Celebrate local art — Browse some of Houston’s finest artists at the 4th annual Winter Holiday Art Market, sponsored by Spacetaker. The two-day festival kicks off Friday, November 20, with a happy hour/party from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.  Saturday features live music, shopping, food samples, artists demonstrations, complimentary beverages, and family activities.  The festival is located at the Winter Street Studios, 2101 Winter Street.

Paint on the streets Houston Via Colori hits the Houston streets downtown this Saturday and Sunday as a fundraiser and art exhibition right on the asphalt. Read my post this week here for more details about this free festival with live music, family fun, and food samplings.

Chill in the winter wonderland — Make a reindeer cone ornament, get a free photo with Santa, and enjoy all the free games and activities.  The Santa’s Wonderland fun continues each Saturday and Sunday through Christmas at Bass Pro Shops (5000 Katy Mills Circle) and Pearland (1000 Basspro Drive). Wander art warehouses — Houston’s 17th annual Artists Warehouse ArtCrawl hits the Houston Warehouse District this Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.  This free event features more than 180 artists in 27 different art buildings, working studios, and homes showcasing their talent. Visitors are encouraged to go green and ride bikes between the different venues. Get all the details on the official ArtCrawl site here.

Create holiday memories — The Woodlands features two events this Saturday, November 20, to kick off the holiday season.  Enjoy the 27th annual Lighting of the Doves from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. along the Woodlands Waterway with live music, ice carvers, snow play area, fireworks, and more.  At the same time, it’s the iWOW celebration (International Winter on the Waterway) promoting the cultural diversity of The Woodlands with food, entertainment, arts and crafts, and music.

Build a snowman — Watch your kids build a snowman at Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinic this Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Sign up here for this free class.
