Free Houston Weekend Fun September 18-20

I CAN’T BELIEVE another Friday has rolled around again.  Here are a few highlights of free fun in Houston this weekend:

Wine/dine with outdoor movie – Unwind at Messina Hoff Winery’s Movies in the Vineyard featuring “Under the Tuscan Sun”.  Movie starts at 8:30 p.m.  A special menu is available from The Vintage House Restaurant. Enjoy downtown and outdoor movie — Discovery Green kicks off Downtown and a Movie tonight with The House of Yes at 7:30 p.m. This movie series is sponsored by community partners such as Saint Arnold Brewery, Downtown Magazine, and Houston Young Professionals for the Arts. 1500 McKinney

Scout for a job –George R. Brown is the place Saturday, September 19, if you’re in need of a job.  More than 40 employers will be on site interviewing such as Hilton, FedEx, City of Houston, Memorial Hermann, Rice University, and Comcast.  The fair is located at Hall C at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Buses will be providing transportation from off-site parking lots if needed.  Check the details here.

Jump, run and swim — Bring the family to Saturday’s Open House at VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa in The Woodlands from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.  Loads of activities to keep your family busy all day such as a climbing wall, health assessment, obstacle course, face painting/balloon animals, arts and crafts, chair massage, fitness classes, swim lessons, story hour, puppet show, and free food.  Movie at 7 p.m. is Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D or the Texas/TexasTech game on the big screen!  Check out the schedule here.  Villa Sport Athletic Club,  4141 Technology Forest Blvd. in The Woodlands.

Craft an American Girl gift — The Knack Craft Event: American Girl provides girls a fun opportunity to make American Girl gifts inspired by the books.  Participating Michael’s locations are sponsoring this family activity from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Find your nearest location here.

Crave some catfish — If you love catfish, don’t miss Trader’s Village Catfish Festival this weekend September 19-20. Live music both days and lots of catfish, hushpuppies, shrimp, gumbo and more.  Admission is free, with $3 parking fee.  Trader’s Village, 7979 N. Eldridge near Hwy. 290, 281-890-5500.

Groove to the beat — Miller Outdoor presents another unique performance this weekend, September 18-19 with the Grand Taiko Festival. This features Japanese Taiko Drumming along with authentic Japanese classical dancing.  Performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Miller Outdoor Theatre, 100 Concert Drive in Hermann Park.

Share fun with contemporary art –It’s Family Day at the Contemporary Arts Museum this Sunday, September 20, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Free art activities for the whole family in conjunction with No Zoning: Artists Engage Houston. CAMH, 5216 Montrose, 713.284.8250.
