THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT THINGS to do in Houston during the spring. Here are a few of the FREE activities going on this weekend, in addition to the free Japan Festival and Golden Dragon Acrobats mentioned yesterday in this post

Discovery Green features Shakespeare at the Green Friday through Sunday for FREE outdoor theater performances. The UH School of Theatre and Dance performs Shakespeare’s Macbeth on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. and As You Like It on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. Discovery Green is Houston’s downtown green space near George R. Brown Convention Center. 713-400-7336

San Jacinto Day Festival and Battle Re-enactment is a great way to live Texas history! This festival on Saturday, April 25, celebrates the battle that won Texas’ independence in 1836. This FREE festival features living history camps, a battle reenactment at 3 p.m., live music stages, children’s make-and-take history activities and crafts, Houston Zoomobile, and food, of course. While the event is FREE from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., rides to the monument’s observation floor are $3-$4. San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site at the San Jacinto Monument, 281-479-2421
