Support “Buy Nothing Day” at Friday Event

TIRED OF ALL the hoopla regarding Black Friday shopping deals for tomorrow?  Then consider supporting “Buy Nothing Day” this Friday, November 27, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Thanks to Sarah Gish — who provides weekly Gish Picks — I heard of this annual anti-consumeristic, family friendly event sponsored by the Houston Simplicity Network.  Houstonians will have the chance to trade items and services without using any form of currency.  Just bring something to display your goods (or a sign that describes your services) and you can participate!  Don’t miss the designated “free” area, where items are not bartered or traded.  Children are welcome to participate — and often bring baked cookies and such to use as barter items.  It sounds like such a wonderful way to teach children to live more simply in today’s materialistic world.  Buy Nothing Day will be held at Live Oak Friends Meetinghouse, 1318 W. 26th in the Heights.
