What is the YMCA Houston After School Program?
The Y’s After School program provides affordable program options at more than 200 sites across Houston, including more than 25 school districts and charter schools.YMCA After School is open to any child ages 5-12 who is a student of a school where the program is offered. Most of the programs are offered on-site at your child’s school, making drop-off and pick-up incredibly convenient.
How Can the YMCA After School Program Benefit My Child?
The YMCA After School is designed to prepare youth for their future with the skills, confidence and social awareness that are needed to be successful in life. The Y has continuously focused on meeting the social, emotional and academic needs of our young learners, so they can grow into the leaders of tomorrow.

During the program, students engage in a variety of structured activities that promote social development and interactions, indoor and outdoor play and academic learning concepts. Additionally, lessons in empathy, inclusion, and service-learning are also taught.
What Activities Does the After School Program Offer?
- Homework Help: This time allows students to work on homework and complete other academic tasks that were assigned during the day with the assistance of the Y staff members.
- Exploration: Your child will participate in hands-on activities that help reinforce learning concepts.
- Enrichment Activities: If your kids are interested in music, art, theater and/or crafts, the Y After School program offers and encourages these enrichment activities.
- Energize: This portion of the day allows students to get out the pent-up energy of the day with outdoor or indoor gym play.
