After more than a decade, Six Flags is finally returning to the Houston area. Well, at least in name. While no new park is being built, Six Flags has announced that it will acquire the Wet & Wild Splashtown park in Spring and rebrand it as in all-new Six Flags experience called Hurricane Harbor Splashtown.
According to a Six Flags press release, the acquisition of Wet & Wild Splashtown is part of a larger deal that includes two other parks: Darien Lake in New York and Wet & Wild Phoenix in Arizona. All three parks are undergoing major renovations and redesigns as Six Flags prepares to reopen them under their own brand.
“The Six Flags brand is recognized throughout the world as an industry leader in creating innovative, groundbreaking experiences for guests of all ages,” said Senior Vice President of US Park Operations Tom Iven. “We are proud to have these incredible parks bear the Six Flags name and we are making major investments in all three properties with record-breaking attractions and extensive upgrades including new theming, paint treatments and branded signage, along with updates to restaurant and retail locations.”
Hurricane Harbor Splashtown will stretch across 48 acres and feature a fun Caribbean-inspired theme. All of the park’s existing ride entrances, dining, and retail locations will be renovated and improved ahead of Six Flags’ grand opening.
The new adrenaline-packed water park will include the Wahoo Wave water slide, a six-story adventure which sends riders plummeting toward the ground in a near-vertical fall with massive hang time. Riders will experience zero-gravity as they plunge 30 feet straight down before zooming back up a massive water wall and splashing into a pool below.
