6. Feges BBQ
Feges BBQ is another BBQ place run by a married couple, although not in a charming, offbeat smokehouse location. Feges is based in the Greenway Plaza food court and serves only breakfast and lunch during the workweek. The owners do occasionally pop up to do special events over the weekends, though, so keep an eye out for that. The food court BBQ restaurant is best known for serving pig wings and beef belly burnt ends, alongside the usual barbecue meats. They also take an experimental approach to barbecue sides with Moroccan-spiced carrots, elote corn salad, and Indian-inspired coleslaw.
Where: 3 Greenway Plaza Suite C-210, Houston, TX 77046
7. Fainmous BBQ
If you’re looking to try some Tennessee barbecue, you should check out Fainmous. The couple that runs the restaurant got their inspiration from the hickory smoke barbecue of Knoxville. Vinegar-heavy sauces go well with pulled pork, ribs, and smoked whole chicken, naturally, but there’s something else that sets Fainmous apart.
The barbecue restaurant also has some of the best vegan and vegetarian barbecue options in Houston, including chickpea salad, BBQ cauliflower, and spinach casserole. You may have to order in advance, but if you have dietary restrictions, this may be a good barbecue option for you. Among the top black-owned bbq in Houston!
Where: 1201 Oliver St #50, Houston, TX 77007
8. Killen’s Barbecue
Killen’s Barbecue usually has a decently long line out front for a reason—it’s tasty. It’s set up cafeteria-style, so you can grab a tray and pick out what you’d like. Top picks include the tender brisket, massive beef ribs, and pork belly burnt ends. As for sides, you can’t go wrong with the potato salad, creamed corn, or bread pudding.
Where: 3613 E Broadway St, Pearland, TX 77581
9. Truth BBQ
Truth BBQ got its start in Brenham, TX before moving into Houston and spreading the wealth that is slow-cooked brisket. You may have to face long lines to get your hands on juicy pulled pork, ribs, and sausage, but it’s sure to be worth it. Just remember to save room for the sides; they’re a standout for the barbecue restaurant. It may be hard to choose between corn pudding, bootlegger beans, or tater tot casserole, or when it comes time for dessert, banana caramel, triple chocolate, or coconut cream cake.
Where: 110 S Heights Blvd, Houston, TX 77007
10. Harlem Road Texas BBQ
Meat is center stage at this no-frills barbecue restaurant. Harlem Road Texas BBQ puts the emphasis on high-quality smoked brisket, chicken, pork, and sausage by slow-cooking the meat over aged wine barrels. The chef, Ara Malekian, infuses all his food with flavor using fat drippings and homemade butter and bacon. While the shop is one of the best BBQ places in Houston, it is rustic and small—essentially a shack—and the food sells out fast.
Where: 9823 Harlem Rd, Richmond, TX 77407
