With temperatures starting to drop, winter is just around the corner in Houston. And with plunging temperatures comes awesome cold weather activities (and, very likely, hot cocoa)! That’s why the return of ice skating at Discovery Green powered by Green Mountain Energy couldn’t come at a better time. Join your fellow Space City residents on the smooth, glistening ice starting November 12 through January 30, 2022! It’s guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit.
Ice Skating – COVID 19 Protocols
Given current world events, Discovery Green will be implementing increased health and safety protocols to keep visitors safe, including limiting capacity to maintain social distancing, contactless ticket buying (you must buy tickets online), requiring masks at all times within the venue, increasing access to hand sanitizer, expanded seating areas.
Discovery Green Ice Skating – Hours of Operation & Special Days
Ice skating at Discovery Green powered by Green Mountain Energy will be open from Friday, November 12 through January 30!
Hours of Operation
- Monday through Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m.
- Skate late! Fridays are open until 11 p.m.
- Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Special Days
- Mondays – Cheap Skate Nights Nov 15 & 29; Dec 6 & 13; Jan 3, 10 & 24 5 – 10 pm: On select Mondays this winter, glide around Green Mountain Energy Ice at Discovery Green® for just $8 + tax per person (includes skate rental)
- Tuesdays – Skating with the Stars: 7—7:15pm: Houston’s top figure skaters perform demonstrations on Green Mountain Energy Ice at Discovery Green
- Wednesdays – Clutch city Wednesdays 5 pm to 10 pm – Skate to music by Houston artists and wear any Houston sports team gear to receive $2 off admission
- Thursdays – Santa On The Ice Nov 18; Dec 2, 9, 16, 23 7-8 pm: Children of all ages are invited to visit with Santa Claus.
- Thursdays – Storybook Stars Thursdays, Dec 30; Jan 6, 13, 20 & 27 7-8pm: Children of all ages are invited to visit with their favorite storybook characters
- Fridays – Flashback Fridays – Excluding Christmas Eve & NYE, 7-9 pm: Whether you remember exactly where you were when you heard your favorite song or you are experiencing it all for the first time, DJ Mohawk Steve will connect you to the power of some of the greatest hits through time.
- Saturdays – Dance/Skate Party Saturdays – Excluding November 20, Christmas and New Year’s Day, 7-9 pm (Dec 11, 8:30-10:30pm): Listen to the coolest pop hits by DJ Boris while skating on the ice
- Sundays -Skating with the Stars 7—7:15pm: Houston’s top figure skaters perform demonstrations on Green Mountain Energy Ice at Discovery Green.
- Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Christmas Day and New Year’s Day from 1 to 7 p.m.
- HISD School Holidays: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m – dates include: Nov. 22-26; Dec. 22-31; Jan. 17
- The ice rink will be closed on Dec. 19 from 4 – 8 pm for a private event.
Ice Skating at Discovery Green – Tickets & Discounts
Not only is Discovery Green a great opportunity to spend time with the family, friends, or a date with someone special, it’s also affordable.
General admission is $15 with skate rental included. On Cheap Skate Mondays, tickets are just $8 including skate rentals. Green Mountain Energy employees and customers can both get $2 off with proof.
