Houston, get ready to embrace the winter season in the most enchanting way possible! As November chills set in, Discovery Green is transforming into a spectacular hub of holiday activities, with the Frostival event marking the grand opening of the Green Mountain Energy Ice rink.

On Friday, November 17, Starting at 6 p.m., the 12-acre park will be buzzing with winter magic!

The festivities include making snow angels in the Snow Zone, taking photos with diverse versions of Santa Claus, and witnessing hip-hop dance performances by the J-Dance Company. Plus, don’t miss the artistic flair with art cars from The Orange Show and an ice-cold DJ set by DJ Mohawk Steve, playing nostalgic hip-hop and H-Town favorites until 10 p.m.

Plus, the first 50 guests and Forever Green Members can enjoy free ice skating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.!

Operated by Houston-based Ice Rink Events, the Green Mountain Energy Ice at Discovery Green is a marvel of sustainability. The rink’s machinery is powered by 100 percent renewable energy, courtesy of Green Mountain Energy, reflecting a shared commitment to environmental stewardship with Discovery Green. The ice, sourced from recycled water of Kinder Lake, adds to this eco-friendly endeavor.

Green Mountain Energy Ice isn’t just about skating; it’s a whole season of events! From the Veteran’s Day celebration, where veterans skate free, to the various themed skate nights including Skate with Santa and Friends, Cheap Skate Nights, and Music Trends Through the Decades, there’s something for everyone. Special Skaters Sunday Night creates a welcoming environment for those with special needs, with the rink offering free access to these guests.

Regular admission for the ice rink is $17 plus tax, including skate rentals. Various discounts are available, including the following:

  • Green Mountain Energy Discounts
    Employees and customers receive a $2 discount. Proof of current billing or employee identification is required for entry.
  • Bank of America Discounts
    Customers and employees receive a $2 discount. Proof of customer card, billing, or employee identification is required for entry.
  • First Responders & Military
    Receive a $2 discount for up to 5 people; must show valid I.D.
  • Forever Green Members
    Discovery Green members receive a $2 discount. Proof of member card is required for entry. Maximum 5 family members.

Sales go to support Discovery Green Conservancy, a nonprofit that maintains the park and provides free cultural programming.
