Mexico en el Corazon

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Discovery Green will be hosting Mexico en el Corazon, a touring show of 50 mariachis and folklorico dancers. Expect to see the Guadalajara Folkloric Ballet, the Mariachi Juvenil Colotlán, the group Pepe and its Pepillos and the charro flourish champion, Jesús Ortiz.

Go Bananas! Festival

It’s all about bananas this weekend at Houston Botanic Garden. Head over and sample different banana varieties, help judge a banana bread baking competition, shop a festive market featuring local vendors, visit with the Garden’s horticulturists to learn tips for growing bananas at home, and even purchase a potted banana plant from the Garden’s collection. There will also be craft stations, a live DJ, and banana margaritas.

If you have questions about your garden, don’t be afraid to ask while you’re there. I’ve gotten some great advice, especially about native plants.

AIA and La Izquierda Galveston Sandcastle Festival

Galveston’s annual sandcastle competition is expanding this year into the AIA and La Izquierda Galveston Sandcastle Festival. This two-day festival will not only feature the amazing sandcastle competition but aslo local and regional bands, local vendors, family-friendly activities, and foodie events.
 
When: Saturday – Sunday, September 21 – 22, 2024 | 10 am – 6 pm
How Much: $10 for both days
Get to board a miniature train for a 12 – 15 minute ride this weekend at Zube Park in Hockley. No reservations are needed. Just get in line and enjoy the ride with the kids.
