MILLER OUTDOOR THEATRE – 1923 TO 2023
Back in May 12, 1923, Miller Outdoor Theatre was dedicated “To the Arts of Music, Poetry, Drama and Oratory”. Its first performance, “Springtime of Our Nation,” was a grand pageant featuring a whopping 2,500 performers. Today, the theatre boasts an impressive eight months of programming with 130 diverse performances that cater to both Houston locals and visitors.
As Miller Outdoor Theatre celebrates its 100th anniversary, Managing Director Cissy Segall Davis reflected on the long journey the venue has taken. While the theatre remains free for the public to enjoy, Davis stressed that maintaining this cultural gem requires more than just love. The Miller Theatre Advisory Board has launched a capital campaign to raise $12.5 million dollars for renovations and improvements to enhance the visitor experience.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help achieve the masterplan for Miller Outdoor Theatre. As part of the #celebratemiller100 campaign, you can make a $100 contribution to support this historic venue and its future generations of visitors.
