The Houston area has a number of outstanding museums whether you are looking for art, history, interactive museums, or anything else! But visiting museums with your family can get expensive.
Blue Star Museums program provides free museum admission to active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve members. It is the result of a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, working in partnership with the Department of Defense and museums across the country!
The 2022 Blue Star Museums program began on May 21, 2022, on Armed Forces Day, and will culminate on September 5, 2022, on Labor Day. Below is a list of 8 wonderful Blue Star Museums in the Houston area that military personnel can take advantage of!

The Health Museum
The Health Museum, located in the heart of Houston, stirs up interest and curiosity concerning health, medicine, and the human body. They are the most engaging and popular science learning facility of its kind, with over 2.5 million visits, and a favorite among Houstonians.

The Museum of Fine Arts
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is a welcoming and inclusive space for all people, uniting Houston’s varied neighborhoods with art that spans 5,000 years and six continents. They aim to inspire appreciation and understanding of the broadest spectrum of human achievement through its permanent collections, special exhibitions, learning and interpretation programs, and more.

Dunham Bible Museum
The Dunham Bible Museum is dedicated to portraying the narrative of the world’s most important book, with its enormous collection of rare Bibles. The Museum’s innovative exhibitions inspire and deepen appreciation for the history, preservation, and importance of the one Book that has had the greatest impact on individual lives and civilizations.

Blue Star Museums Program 2022 – Free admission to museums in Galveston
Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum
The Ocean Star was purchased by the OEC in 1995, and after extensive renovations, it reopened as a museum in 1997. The museum is set up to be a self-guided tour with videos, information, and interactive displays throughout, and most visitors will take around 1.5 hours to complete the tour.

The Bryan Museum
The Bryan Museum’s purpose is to bring Texas and the American West history to life. Students of all ages can witness the stories of yesterday and write the stories of tomorrow thanks to the museum’s world-class collections, exhibitions, and instructional history and literacy initiatives.

Galveston County Historical Museum
In 1976, the Galveston County Museum was established. The museum displays relics from the county as well as stories about it. The 1900 Storm, paleontology, Mardi Gras, military history, photography, and more are all covered. They look after nearly 10,000 artifacts and archives, as well as rotating displays that reflect Galveston County’s history.

The Grand 1894 Opera House
The Grand has a significant position in this community’s history as well as the lives of many of its people. It has weathered the hurricanes of 1900 and 1915, as well as Hurricanes Carla and Alicia, and years of neglect throughout its history. The Grand 1894 Opera House’s aim is to enrich Galveston’s and the Gulf Coast region’s cultural life.

San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site in La Porte
The Battle of San Jacinto is commemorated in the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, which also houses the museum ship USS Texas. They work to safeguard and maintain the state’s historic and prehistoric resources for present and future generations’ usage, education, enjoyment, and economic gain.
