1. Historias, Memorias, y Recuerdos: Slam Story at Alley Theatre

Join this epic night of community storytelling. Enjoy the personal stories inspired by Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me, Ultima and presented by Primer Borrador (First Draft) community participants. Community members from 12 Bless Me, Ultima book clubs came together in an intensive 8-hour bilingual storytelling residency learning the structure of storytelling and connecting them with a childhood memory of a personal faith healer. Be a part of their storytelling journey and celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month!

3. Latin Festival Returns to Pearland for National Hispanic Heritage Month

The Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber Of Commerce is enthusiastic to announce Latin Festival 2022. The event was created in 2019 to provide a family-oriented Latin event that provides the Latin communities a place to gather with family and friends to listen and dance to live Latin music, enjoy Latin food, and connect with Latin-friendly businesses in an open social space.

4. Latin Heritage Month: Book Talk with Author Jasminne Mendez at Holocaust Museum Houston

In this hour-long program, poet, writer and performer Jasminne Mendez will share poems and a brief history commemorating the 75th anniversary of the 1937 Haitian Massacre which occurred along the northwestern border of the Dominican Republic and Haiti during the Trujillo Era. These poems and her work seek to amplify the voices of the victims, survivors and living ancestors of those whose lives were forever changed by the massacre.

Jasminne Mendez is an award-winning author of several books for children and adults. She has had poetry and essays published in numerous journals and anthologies and she is the author of two multi-genre collections Island of Dreams (Floricanto Press, 2013) which won an International Latino Book Award, and Night-Blooming Jasmin(n)e: Personal Essays and Poetry (Arte Publico Press, 2018).

Charrería is a Mexican cultural tradition that stems from the Spanish-inspired charreada. A charreada is a festive event that is similar to an American rodeo in its variety of equestrian activities. Like the American “rodeo culture,” Charrería extends beyond horses and riders to include aspects such as costume, music, and food that bring uniquely Latino culture to a sport that has its roots in Spain.

Join from 12 pm to 5 pm, for an evening of family entertainment, there will be Dancing Horses, Live Music, Petting Zoo, and Pony Rides.

El Festival De La Salsa is a true representation of our hispanic heritage celebration through music, food and art. The event features live Latin artists, folkloric/ cultural performances and food vendors from different Latin countries. El Festival De La Salsa, highlights the Hispanic heritage and Latin culture while bringing all Latin countries together in one event to celebrate our roots and traditions.

7. Tejas Got Soul: La Fiebre at Discovery Green

Discover a uniquely Houston musical legacy created when Tejas met Soul. In the 1960s Houston’s Chicano musicians, inspired by the soul, blues, and zydeco traditions of Bayou City, developed a style of conjunto music distinct from the rest of Texas. These free concerts feature bands that exemplify the history and promise of Tejas Got Soul. You may just discover your favorite band. Tejas Got Soul at Discovery Green is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and funded in part by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance.

These Tejano music trendsetters are some of Latin music’s most influential bands. The gold and the platinum-selling band brings their explosive performance to the Discovery Green stage for the first time.

The 16th Annual Grito Fest, one of the area’s most popular festivals celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, will be held over two days: September 30th at Baytown Town Square (213 W. Texas Ave) and October 1st at Bicentennial Park (1001 Market Street). This FREE and family-friendly outdoor festival will feature musical entertainment, mariachis, kid’s activities, contests, food and craft vendors, and more.
